Using Tulle to Create the Perfect Room for a Little Girl

It is the dream of every little girl to have a fairy or princess-themed room with tulle canopies and lace curtains. But while some moms just make decorating seem like a walk in the park, others may find it more difficult. If you are one of the latter, here are some tips to help you create the perfect room for your little girl. It may take some practice, but when you see the smile on your child’s face, everything is going to be worth it.

If you can afford to repaint the whole room, then do not hesitate to do so. Giving the room a new color will instantly brighten it up. However, if this is not an option, then you might want to consider putting floor to ceiling drapes. Tulle is an inexpensive fabric that you can use for this purpose. Gossamer varieties give the room a sparkling glow that your daughter will surely love. You can even get the fabric in different complimentary colors so you can change the look of your daughter’s room every so often. For example, you can use yellow, green and ivory during spring and summer to brighten up the room and a perhaps pink, purple or peach for fall and winter.

Aside from full-length drapes, you can also make a canopy over your daughter’s bed. All you have to do is to get a wide piece of tulle (or several shorter widths sewn together) that’s enough to cover the area of the bed. Tack or glue the center of the fabric to the ceiling and decorate it with ribbons, feathers and fabric flowers you can make from the same material. You can let the ends flow down, but be sure to pull the fabric up to the back of the headboard and pin it in place.

Have extra tulle? Make little headbands and flower barrettes for your little girl. You can also make bags and other accessories to complete the look of your princess room. For smaller pieces, you can cut out stars, flowers and other cute designs and glue or sew them onto the drapes and canopy.
