You don’t need a lot of things to make your wedding ceremony special and memorable. A handful of beautiful satin butterflies is enough to add a touch of elegance, flamboyance, style, panache and sophistication to your wedding.

Colorful and delicate satin butterflies can impart an exquisite romantic appeal to your wedding decorations. Use them to adorn your bouquet, veil, tiara, wrist corsage and other wedding accessories. They can also enhance the beauty of your wedding invitation cards, guestbook, place cards, thank you cards and wedding favors.

Satin butterflies

Elegant satin butterflies can easily complete the glorious splendor of your wedding decorations. You can use them to embellish the tablecloths, chair covers, cardholders, centerpieces and unity candle set. A satin butterfly is certainly not an ordinary embellishment -- it is a magnificent piece of art with scintillating daintiness.

Handmade satin butterflies have their own unique charm and are easy to make. To make a wedding butterfly, you need satin fabric, a needle, thread, superglue, and a few decorative items like pearls, beads, crystals and metallic wire. Instead of satin fabric, you can also use satin ribbons.

If you are using satin fabric, cut a long strip, which is at least 3 inches in width and 6 inches in length. This strip will be used for making the wings of the satin butterfly. For small wings, the strip should be 2 iches wide and 4 inches long. Fold the strips along the edges to secure the raw borders. Iron the folds to prevent them from opening. With satin ribbons, you don’t have to fold the edges. Just cut the pieces carefully to make the wings the right size.
For the wing, fold the satin piece in half, and secure the edges with the help of running stitch. Pull the thread and tie a knot. Make the remaining three wings in the same manner. Take any scrap material and cut a circle about ½-inch in diameter. Use superglue to paste all four wings on the circle. Make sure that the two big wings are on the upper side of the circle and the smaller wings are on the lower side. Decorate your wedding butterfly with pearls, beads and crystals. Don’t forget to attach the metallic wire antennae. You can create several satin butterflies in this manner, all in keeping with your wedding theme.
